Liverpool had 24 shots tonight, the most on record since 2003-04 without scoring for a team in the Champions League. They also had 61% of the possession and completed 89% of their passes. However, Real Madrid were clinical in their finishing, and they took their chances when they came.
The result leaves Liverpool with a mountain to climb in the second leg. They will need to score at least three goals at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium to have any chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.
