PIA's Historic Fleet: Exploring the Boeing 747's Legacy

PIA's Acquisition and Customization of Boeing 747s

In 1999, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) leased five Boeing 747-300 aircraft from Cathay Pacific to replace its aging Boeing 747-200M fleet. These aircraft featured a new livery adorned with an intricate handwork Pashmina tail design, a testament to Pakistan's rich cultural heritage.

Throughout its 75-year history, PIA has operated a total of 15 Boeing 747s, the first of which was a 747-200 delivered in the early days of the airline.

The Boeing 747-300: A Long-Range Powerhouse

The Boeing 747-300, with its distinctive four-engine configuration and spacious widebody design, boasts a maximum capacity of 608 passengers in a partial double-deck layout. This model's increased upper deck capacity compared to the 747-200 provided PIA with greater flexibility in passenger configurations.

PIA's Boeing 747-300s offered comfortable seating arrangements, with 304 Economy Class seats and a total capacity of 393 seats. To enhance passenger convenience and safety, PIA also implemented a strict baggage policy limiting under-seat stowage during takeoff and landing.

PIA's Advanced Aircraft Fleet

Beyond the Boeing 747, PIA operates a modern and advanced fleet of aircraft to meet the demands of its diverse network. From the technologically advanced Boeing 777 to the fuel-efficient Airbus A320 family, PIA's fleet provides passengers with a range of comfortable and reliable travel options.

PIA's commitment to innovation and passenger experience is evident in its continuous investment in its fleet, ensuring that its passengers enjoy safe, efficient, and enjoyable journeys.
