Valve Employees Hint at Wider Compatibility

SteamOS will soon be available for more than just Steam Deck.

Valve, the company behind Steam, has hinted that it may soon expand the compatibility of its SteamOS operating system beyond the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck is a handheld gaming device that was released in 2022. It runs on SteamOS, a custom operating system that is based on the Linux kernel.

In an interview with PC Gamer, two Valve employees hinted that SteamOS could be coming to other handhelds in the future. "We're looking at making it available to other handhelds," said Valve designer Lawrence Yang. "We think it's a great fit for that form factor." Valve programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais added, "We're definitely interested in exploring that space."
